14 Years Walking the Donegal Coast
Síle O'Donnell grew up in Letterkenny with a map in one hand and her grandfather's stories in the other. He was a lighthouse keeper at Fanad Head, so the coastline wasn't just scenery to her — it was home. After studying geography at NUI Galway, she worked in outdoor education before realizing her real passion: documenting walks that actually work for people.
What sets her apart isn't just the routes themselves. It's that she's obsessed with making them accessible without making them boring. She's worked with the Irish Tourist Board to establish accessibility standards for coastal paths, trained over 60 local guides, and documented 120+ walking routes across northwest Ireland. But what she's most proud of? The emails from older walkers saying they've rediscovered parts of the landscape they thought were closed off to them.
She believes authentic travel experiences shouldn't be limited by age or mobility. That's why every route she creates comes with meticulous on-the-ground research, historical context, and real understanding of how terrain and weather affect different ability levels.

The Work That Matters
Making Walks Accessible, Not Boring
There's a misconception that accessible walking routes have to be flat, short, and uninspiring. She proves that wrong every single time. Síle designs routes where older walkers encounter real landscape, real challenges, real rewards — just without the barriers. Whether it's gentler gradients, strategic rest stops, or detailed terrain descriptions, every decision serves genuine accessibility while maintaining authentic adventure.
Connecting People to Their Landscape's History
A walk is more than just moving from A to B. It's about understanding the story of the place. Her grandfather's years as a lighthouse keeper gave her a unique perspective — every building, every cliff edge, every rocky outcrop has human history attached. She weaves these narratives into her routes so walkers aren't just seeing landscape, they're understanding it. That transforms a simple walk into a journey through time.
